The Ladder Competition is a less formal competition than the Club Champion tournaments. The Ladder competition will run continuously from 25 January to 31 November 2025.
The aim is to promote games between varied opponents with a bit of friendly competition.
Ladder Competition games can only be played on set competition days, currently the last Saturday of each month.
The starting positions on the ladder has been determined by the 2024 Club Championship Tournament standings in reverse order followed by members who did not participate in the 2024 competition, followed by new members.
Competiton Play
Players challenge players who are positioned within a range of 3 positions above and below themselves on the ladder.
Players self organise games on the competition day.
The lower placed player on the ladder is white.
If the lower placed player wins the game, the players swap places on the ladder. If the higher placed player wins, they keep their position on the ladder .
Players cannot play the same opponent twice in a row.
Challenges do not need to be accepted after 11am (challenge requests must be made before the start of the Ode of Remembrance), but they can be accepted if the players wish.
If a player does not play a game on a competition day, they will drop 4 places on the ladder. Players must either play higher placed players in the hope of increasing their ranking or play lower placed players to defend their current ranking.
The maximum ranking up or down the ladder that a player may challenge is 3 places. For example:
the player in 10th position can play anyone up to 7th position (player #9, #8, #7,) and own to 13th (player #11, #12, #13).
Games and results must be recorded in the Ladder Competition Results Book that will be in the competition folder - games not entered into the book cannot be counted
The changing of positions on the ladder will be calculated based on the order that the games appear in the Ladder Competition Results Book - see explanation
