On Saturday 10 May we were hosted by the Gosford Chess Club for the Central Coast Cup. As reigning holders we hoped to retain the title, however Gosford put in a dominant performance winning the match 16-0!
Congrats Gosford. Ettalong, we have some improving to do.

Digital Chess Library
Digital Chess Library
The club has been given access to a digital library of over 1,000 chess books and 280 PGN files. Online access to the library will be given to paid and active members.
2024 Christmas Lunch
2024 Christmas Lunch
On Saturday 14 December we'll have our Christmas lunch after usual chess.
Come and join us on the final club day of the year and enjoy a bite to eat together - games from 10am and lunch from 12pm.
We'll also have some trophy formalities (including retrospectively for 2023).
Congratulations John - 2024 Club Champion
With an aggregate score of 9 points after the three Swiss Tournaments, John is the 2024 Club Champion. John didn't lose a single game as white, meaning we all need to brush up on how to beat Birds Opening (1.f4).

On Saturday the 1st of June, we'll play an Simul Exhibition featuring our 2023 Club Champion, Jack.
Games start at 10:15am in the Sports Bar of Ettalong Diggers.
Jack will play all games as white. Please let Adam know if you would like to participate. Members only.

Swiss #1 Round 4 results are below.
Carla and Shane played a Sicilian to a draw while Jack launched an Austrian attack against Alex's Pirc Defence to score a win.
Michael's absence gave John a point and Adam had to dig deep against Eddy to get a win having blundered his queen early in schoolboy fashion.
Ion and Ramon played a mystery draw (empty score sheet) and Les siezed an opportunity to turn a losing position into a win against Keith.

Carla found a way through Michael's London, creating a tactical chance that was hard to calculate - it's the puzzle this week.
Jack blew Adam off the board winning in 20 moves at an impressive 97% accuracy according to stockfish.
John slowly manouvered to a win over Ramon and Eddy took the point in his game against Les.
Shane and Alex were the benfactors of forgeits against Ion and Keith respectively.
The final round is a big one....

In a clash of the heavy weights, Jack and Shane played out a draw after a long complicated rook end game with lots of pawns.
Carla overcome Alex's french defence to take the win and Adam was not able to break through Michael's London, eventually timing out.
Eddy and Ion played what looks like a wild game and Ramon came back to win after blundering a piece to Les.
John and Keith played a game with a bit of everything and it gives us the puzzle this week.

Swiss #1 Round 1 completed on Sat 2 March with some interesting games.
A tight battle between Ramon and Jack, with black blasting the game open with a tempoaray piece sacrifice to then prevail in a sharp endgame.
Alex created pressure to bring out an uncharacteristic blunder from John to take the point.
Keith and Carla played a wild Ruy Lopez with 7 Great moves in the game according to Stockfish.
